- Ideal climate in the Pax-Pod and Cargo-Pod
- App-based connectivity for fleet operation
- Safety during autonomous driving with the ADSS family
From 7 to 10 January, Rinspeed will be presenting the MetroSnap, an advanced study for last-mile transport, for the first time at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. With its solutions in the fields of thermal management, connectivity, and electronic switch systems, Eberspaecher ensures safety and comfort in the concept vehicle. An additional Energy Storage System from Eberspaecher which is independent of the traction battery enables the MetroSnap to have an autonomous energy supply – and thus a greater electrical range.
At CES 2018, Swiss company Rinspeed presented its Snap concept vehicle for the first time: an electric, autonomous vehicle in which the chassis (“Skateboard”) and the various bodies (“Pods”) can be flexibly combined at any time. Last year, the concept was further developed in the form of the microSNAP. And now comes the next stage, which has been further optimized for near-series application. Eberspaecher’s solutions have been applied to ensure comfort and safety.
Customer-specific thermal management solutions in the Pax-Pod and Cargo-Pod
Eberspaecher supplies two MetroSnap vehicle types with thermal management solutions. The six-seat Pax-Pod is designed for quick and easy passenger transport. The combination of a space-saving split air-conditioning system and the latest generation of electric air heaters from Eberspaecher ensures pleasant temperatures in the passenger compartment throughout the whole year. The Cargo-Pod makes the autonomous transport of goods possible – for example, as a supermarket delivery vehicle or a mobile catering kiosk. Eberspaecher cooling and heating containers provide the necessary temperature for the goods on board. To ensure the traction battery isn’t burdened and a greater electrical range is achieved, the Pods are equipped with an Eberspaecher Energy Storage System for autonomous energy supply to the heating and cooling systems.
Connectivity for fleet operation and safety during autonomous driving
An advantage to a fleet operation of several Cargo or Pax-Pods: via the Eberspaecher app, fleet operators can view important information about the systems, control the temperature, or use GPS tracking to call up both the location of the vehicle and the Energy Storage System’s charge level. High-performance switches from the ADSS family (Autonomous Drive Safety Switches) ensure the safety that’s needed in autonomous traffic. They are designed for the high requirements of autonomous driving up to Level 5, where the vehicle takes over all driving functions and guarantees the seamless operation of functions that are relevant to safety.
